The Aspire One ZG5 SSD

Posted on December 21, 2009

I’ve finally gotten fed up with the AAO’s stock SSD. It is definitely the bottleneck — any time there is a lag in performance, the drive light will be on. So a few days ago, I looked on ebay and found the same 1.8″ Samsung zif hard drive that tnkgrl used to upgrade her drive. I got it for about $60 shipped (there is one merchant who accepts offers). After I install it, I’m planning to play around with some alternative distros like Debian Testing and Arch.

Update 1/16/10: Dang! Tnkgrl’s got some serious modding mojo! I can’t for the life of me get the original ribbon cable to fit the new drive! So I ordered a new zif/lif ribbon cable on ebay.
